Leonardo is one of our more advanced slalom skiers that has really improved over the years and now represents the club in local three-event tournaments. He also is a former board of director and secretary for the club, and is still involved on the clubs bylaw committee and is constantly helping with other club projects behind the scenes. Leonardo is also the father of club member and junior board member James Topa
Meet Leonardo
Name: Leonardo Topa
Age: Old enough to drive, vote and buy wine and beer
Hometown: Originally Venice, Italy, where I grew up, now Auburn, MA
Skiing for: The very first time water skiing was with brother-in-law in 1986. After that I skied very sporadically, until I joined the club. I have been hooked ever since.
Years in the club: 6
Ski Activities: Mostly slalom, occasionally tricks.
Favorite Ski Activity: Rip it across the wakes and throw big sprays in turns
Goals for 2019: Run the full slalom course, for 2019 I’d love to run it at 15 off @ 34 mph. Learn the toe-side and heel-side turns on a wakeboard
Activities outside of Ski Club: Mountain hiking and climbing, high performance driving on race tracks, biking, snow skiing, running, reading, photography. I work as a software engineer.
Advice to new skiers: “Never give up. Set your sight on a goal you want to achieve and practice, practice, practice. Watch people better than you, ask them questions. The club has many great skiers who are very happy to help.”
